The African Space Leadership Institute (ASLI) is Africa’s first space-focused think tank, launched in 2022 to address the deficit in knowledge and skills concerning space policy, strategy, and law across the continent. Its establishment was motivated by the needs identified during the development of the African Space Policy and Strategy, which were adopted in 2016 and led to the creation of the African Space Agency (AfSA) in 2018.
ASLI’s mission is to develop Africa’s capabilities and capacity in space policy, strategy, law, governance, and leadership. It works to facilitate the success of both the African outer space program and national space initiatives by increasing and deepening space knowledge, supporting the strategic positioning of space programs, and strengthening Africa’s engagement in international forums.
